The platform is known for flash deals, which lasted for at least 72 hours on the site. Its marketing strategy also involved up to 70% discounts on a wide range of products to attract customers.

The startup started off in 2009 in Seattle. Initially, the company operated without inventory in order to save money. However, while this technique reduced the initial capital required, it resulted in delivery delays and issues related to quality maintenance.

Due to economic weakness, financial uncertainty and Terry Boyle’s resignation as CEO, Zulily decided to shut down in December 2023. However, this closure was short-lived.

Beyond Inc., the old Overstock.com that restarted after the acquisition of Bed Bath and Beyond’s IP assets, made a special announcement in May 2024. It shared its decision to acquire the intellectual property assets of online retailer Zulily for $4.5 million in an all-cash deal.

This means that Zulily has now come back with a fresh management. The relaunch promises to help solve past problems Zulily had while running its business.

The ‘new’ Zulily is known for a variety of offerings. The platform works as a one-stop shop for getting all the essentials and luxuries. Here are some popular product categories available on the site.

Clothing: All types of clothing items are available for men, women, and kids.

Shoes: From kids’ shoes to women’s footwear and accessories, you can find a large variety available.

Beauty and Wellness: You can get hands-on fragrances, skin care products, and hair removal items.

Home Decor: The e-commerce platform is best for finding decorative accessories, blankets, wall shelves, frames, and more.

Designer: There is a separate product category for designer products sold on the platform. You can explore it to find designer handbags, jewelry, clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Zulily, like before, also features frequent sales and promotions on its website to make a large number of customers buy quality products from the platform.

Is Zulily Legit?

Yes, Zulily claims to be a legitimate online fashion store based in Seattle, USA, which offers a wide range of products for everyone.

However, the platform operates on a flash-sale model. This means it frequently offers limited-time deals at discounts of up to 65%. It practices this model by ordering items from suppliers after the purchases have been made. The platform doesn’t stock large inventories. This strategy supports Zulily’s vision to provide low prices. However, the model also often results in hefty shipping costs and delays.

This is why many customers often question Zulily’s legitimacy. Beyond slow shipping, shoppers also often raise concerns about inconsistency in product quality and restrictions in the return policy regardless of the great deals available. This is why, before you make a shopping decision on Zulily, ensure to read the customer reviews in detail.

Zulily Pros

Here are some great things about Zulily.

Zulily offers excellent deals and significant discounts on its site.

You can find almost all the product categories on the platform. From home goods to clothing, there is something available for everyone.

The Zulily website can help you find some great designer products. You can get your hands on jewelry, clothing, and accessories.

Zulily has an intuitive website that is quite easy to navigate.

Zulily Cons – The Risks

There are some risks associated with shopping at Zulily. Here are some of the things you may face.

Unfortunately, Zulily takes long shipping times. That’s because it doesn’t stock inventory. Instead, it orders goods from vendors after purchases are made. This is why, at times, even the standard delivery takes weeks to accomplish.

Zulily’s return policy is also quite complicated. The platform generally allows returns within 30 days of their purchase. However, there are many items that you can’t return at all. There are no returns available for them. Most of the refunds are provided as Zulily store credit. You can use this credit for your future purchases. To avoid any hassle, it is best to check an item’s return policy before making a purchase.

Zulily sells products from multiple brands. Some of these are popular, while others are mostly startups. This is why there is an inconsistency in the quality of products. Sizing can also differ between these brands, so it’s essential to check if Zulily’s clothes are true to the size mentioned. Therefore, you are advised to read specific customer reviews of the product before adding it to your cart. You should also check the size chart and description given with every clothing item to be on the safe side.

Zulily also offers customer support through email and chat. Multiple channels of communication prove helpful if you encounter problems with your order. However, as per reviews available on the internet, the customer support provided is not consistent for everyone. Some customers have received immediate responses to their queries, while others have struggled to get a reply.

Zulily’s downsides outweigh its positive attributes to some extent, which is why the platform experienced its early downfall. The site’s flash-sale business model and longer shipping durations can also sometimes lead to skepticism, labeling Zulily as a scam. But, the e-commerce site is a real company selling authentic products.

Zulily’s discounts come with significant trade-offs. So, you will have to manage your expectations properly when shopping at Zulily. You will have to be patient and realistic to avoid disappointment.

Is Zulily Safe to Shop From?

Zulily is safe to shop from. After making purchases, you will not encounter any fake deliveries. However, late deliveries may be disappointing. You may not receive your order on time because Zulily doesn’t stock inventory and only contacts vendors after a sale.

Besides, the refund policy may seem a little off at times. That’s because Zulily arranges sales every now and then and so doesn’t offer refunds on certain sale items.

Additionally, since Zulily offers multiple brands, not all products may be of similar quality. Some brands may be better than others, adding inconsistency to your purchases. You can always read brand reviews separately before buying products from Zulily and contact the customer support team to learn more about your desired products.

Make sure that you keep these downsides in mind before shopping from Zulily. If you are happy with the above-mentioned points, you can continue with your purchases.

Buyer Beware

As a buyer, you should manage your expectations based on the customer reviews available online. Zulily has a 1.5-star rating on TrustPilot and a 2.3-star rating on SiteJabber, which is not impressive.

As a buyer, you should know about these ratings and all the reasons behind them to evaluate whether it is worth buying from Zulily. Although the sales and product variety are attractive, many buyers have had a bad experience with the e-commerce platform, even after its relaunch.

Zulily has lost its performance over time, which has caused even the most loyal shoppers to shift to better alternatives.

Real Customer Reviews

Here are some customer reviews from multiple platforms to help you make a shopping decision wisely.

Barbara shared that she has always been a fan of Zulily and has high expectations from the recently launched new version of the same platform.
