Another month has passed by and we’ve managed to add 7367 trees to Tenere’s tree donation update. We also wrapped up June with a special interview with one of our major planting partners, One Tree Planted.

June’s donation update

In June 2022, the Tenere Team has planted 7367 trees through Eden Reforestation Projects (6667 trees), The Nature Conservancy (200 trees), and One Tree Planted (500 trees). We believe the organizations at the forefront can help us to mitigate climate change, rebuild our diverse ecosystems, and support forest-based communities.

The planting journey in June welcomed our new reforestation partner, The Nature Conservancy. Based in the U.S., The Nature Conservancy has been in operation for more than 100 years, supporting more than 70 countries to save the diversity of nature. Our first 200 trees to TNC will continuously help them put the best conservation science into action.

At the UN Climate Change Summit in 2014, President Barack Obama remarked, “We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it.” The Tenere Team is thankful for the joint efforts of users, merchants, and reforestation partners in our planting journey.

Meet our planting partner – One Tree Planted

Q: Your achievement of One Tree Planted is obviously unquestionable. If there are 3 words you can use to describe this planting journey, what would they be?

A: Collaborative, community-driven, innovative.

Q: There are debates that planting trees won’t help. What is your opinion on this and what keeps you moving forward with this journey?

A: We know that trees aren’t a silver bullet solution to climate change, but we do know what a powerful piece of the solution they are. Trees planted in the right place at the right time can have such an impact on people, wildlife, and the environment, and that impact keeps us going every day.

Q: Can you share with us your goal this year?

A: We’re on track to plant 40 million trees in 2022!

Q: What types of trees do you plant and why do you choose them?

A: We emphasize diverse, native tree species for our projects. Planting a mix of species grown in nearby nurseries helps ensure the landscape will thrive, the trees will grow old, and wildlife has an appropriate habitat.

Q: What is the biggest challenge that One Tree Planted has faced?

A: Scaling global reforestation has a lot of unique challenges! One that hits home right now is seed supply, especially for landscapes that are recovering from Forest Fires. It is difficult to sustainably collect seeds at the same rate they need to be planted, especially when mature trees are hurt by fires.

Q: We see that you have multiple planting projects, which project has been the most successful so far?

A: There are so many! I’ll highlight a favorite, which is our partnership in Rwanda. That project is all about community, in which a cohort of women earns a fellowship to gain sustainability and agroforestry skills. Being able to gain meaningful employment from environmental work creates a ripple effect for the women, their families, and their communities. Children can go to school, communities can eat better, and skills are exchanged.

Q: It is an absolute pleasure for Tenere to become your partner. I believe there are many others who want to collaborate with you. Can you, in brief, introduce the process and requirements for this partnership?

A: To be a business partner of One Tree Planted, just check out our website! Under “Get Involved,” there’s a form for businesses to fill out. From there, the partnership is whatever you want to make it. We love working with all kinds of industries.

Q: How do you think about Tenere Team’s potential in this planting journey?

A: We want our partnerships to grow and blossom! We hope that Tenere’s commitment to sustainability can scale with us each year to make a continued impact.

Q: Are there any opportunities available for Tenere Team’s users if they want to volunteer in one of your planting projects?

A: We’ll have some planting projects coming up in June for World Environment Day, and in September for Plant a Tree Day. Those can be found on our website. In addition, please do reach out if you’d like to coordinate a local event just for the Tenere Team.
